About us

The team at Level Up includes three down to earth teachers who all live locally with our families in Mangawhai.

We are passionate about providing interesting and hands on lessons to build confidence in all of our students.  As experienced teachers we are aware that we all learn in different ways, so our goal is to create lessons that cater to all students needs and to celebrate every success.

Our teaching background covers all ages from Year One through to Year Eight.

What We Do

Math Tutoring

Many students face challenges when learning Mathematics throughout their schooling years. At Level Up we ensure that we focus on creating "real life" Math problems, where these new skills can be attained and applied confidently to everyday situations. For instance, using percentages to work out on sale prices or working out the length of materials needed for that sewing or building project.

Level Up teachers are big believers in limiting the use of text books and rather to create activities that are relatable to our modern lifestyle.

The small group sessions allow students to discuss and share their ideas in a collaborative setting.  Research has shown that this is a valuable skill to ensure a deeper understanding of the topic and that the information is easily retained.

Our sessions focus on Number Knowledge, Number Strategies, Strand and Basic Facts.  All of our content aligns with the NZ Curriculum, Prime Maths and the Numeracy Project.

Reading Tutoring

"The more that you read, the more things you'll know.  The more that you learn, the more places you'll go" Dr Seuss

Level Up Reading sessions use a modern resource created in New Zealand by Jill Eggleton.  This fantastic resource focuses on reading with fluency and ensuring that students understand what they are reading, using effective strategies to decode different levelled texts. During sessions we use a range of non-fiction and fiction texts to spark an interest in all students.

Many students struggle with the skill of summarising, which is why small group settings are perfect to work together to practise this skill and gaining confidence within themselves in a safe learning environment.
